Smokey Blue Cheese Mousse

A delicious, addictive, and simple hors d’oeurve recipe that’s sure to impress at your next dinner party or special event! Can be made up to 4 hours in advance. If you plan to use crackers (as we have in the photo), we recommend constructing your bites just before serving to maintain their crunch.

Smokey Blue Cheese Mousse

Ingredients

  • 7oz Organic Smokey Blue Cheese
  • 4oz Cream Cheese
  • Kosher Salt
  • Freshly-Ground Black Pepper
  • 1/3 c. Heavy Whipping Cream
  • Crackers, celery or other
  • Crushed hazelnuts and chopped green onions, or your garnish of choice

Instructions

  1. Puree blue cheese and cream cheese in a food processor until completely smooth.
  2. Transfer to a bowl and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. In a glass or metal bowl, beat heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  4. Fold whipped cream into the blue cheese mixture, stirring gently until the mixture has no lumps. Do not over-stir, or your mousse will become flat and runny rather than light and fluffy. (At this stage, if you do not plan to serve your mousse right away, we recommend refrigerating it to maintain proper consistency. The mousse can remain refrigerated for up to 4 hours before serving.)
  5. To serve, ensure cheese mixture is cold. Pipe or spread cheese mixture onto a cracker or vegetable, then garnish with hazelnuts, green onion, or your choice of seasoning.

Tip: we find a simple and efficient way to build your hors d’oeuvre bite is to fill a large ziploc bag with the cheese mixture, then snip off a 0.25″ section from one bottom corner of the ziploc to create a DIY pastry bag. Gently squeeze the mixture out of the hole and onto your cracker or vegetable. This way, you won’t need to bother with cleaning fatty cheese out of a pastry bag (which if not completely removed could impact future recipes), and cleanup is simple: just throw away the empty used ziploc.
